Added the one hundred fourth The Freethinker Podcast YouTube Interview with Robert M. Price on God’s Omniscience and the Imperfect Creation of Adam to The Freethinker Podcast page under Resources on the Secular Web.

Join host Edouard Tahmizian for this 40-minute interview with long-time return guest and well-known biblical scholar Robert M. Price on how early Church Fathers tried to make sense of evolving Christian doctrines as they became an increasingly inconsistent with each other. Jesus’ omniscience, for example, makes it difficult to make sense of why Jesus would call out asking “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” As Tahmizian asks, why would Jesus pray three times for God the Father to remove this cup from me if Jesus already knows that the cup will not be taken away? All the contradictions the flow from an incarnate God that exists as one person with two natures (per dyothelitism), divine and human, eventually evolve into the doctrine of a God potentially possessing two wills, too, until finally settling on the doctrine of the Trinity, where there are three co-equal, co-eternal, and fully divine persons or conscious wills: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Price notes that all of this reflects the fact that these early Church Fathers are just making things up as they go along. The discussion then turns to what to make of the idea of a perfect God creating the first human, Adam, as a morally imperfect being at the outset, who then is able to sin, leading to the need for salvation from original sin to save the denizens of an otherwise fallen world. Tune in for a discussion of the knots that theologians have tied themselves into for thousands of years trying to make sense of these internally inconsistent concepts!
