This is an excellent example of proving with facts and argument that ethics can be a branch of science, and that the nature of man and the universe does entail certain universal moral truths without any reference to God or the supernatural. Some really excellent work in this arena has been done the past few years, and this is a solid contribution to it.
Mr. Daleiden builds a secular case for a solid relationship between rights and responsibilities, grounding a real moral point of view. This book is a boon to those who suspect that a principled alternative to the relativism of the Left and the absolutism of the Right is the most appropriate course for humanity, showing that ethics are relative to human desires, but absolute insofar as humans can and do reach consensus on what is desired.
Anyone who says naturalism cannot account for values or justify any worthwhile ethical system simply must contend with this book.
