Charles Martin Hallé, Past President and now Honorary Member of his local Rotary Club, is the great grandson of Sir Charles Hallé, founder of the Orchestra that bears his name. He is known as "Martin" to avoid confusion with his father, also called "Charles." After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in English and Roman Law, Martin served his articles in a Law firm, but soon moved to a career in Commerce where he eventually became a Director of the largest chain of Supermarkets in South Africa. Now retired, he pursues his interests in the history of ancient civilizations and traveling with his wife to intriguing places, which have included Japan, China, Taiwan, Russia, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Oman, and Turkey, plus many visits to the USA and UK.
