A Brief History of Western Philosophy
"Anthony Kenny surveys the history of Western philosophy from the Pre-Socratics to the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein. This is a well-written survey of the most important contributions of some of the major philosophers, but it is far from comprehensive. Particularly disappointing was the absence of any commentary on the half-century of philosophy since Wittgenstein, the absence of any discussion of current trends in philosophy, and the absence of any discussion of twentieth century continental philosophy such as existentialism or phenomenology. Despite these deficiencies, Kenny's history of philosophy commendably surveys technical issues in philosophy in a way that easy for laymen to understand, especially concerning twentieth century analytic philosophy."
